A full-day private bird watching excursion departing from Chiang Mai to explore Thailand’s highest peak.
- We depart from your hotel in Chiang Mai in a private air conditioned van between 5 and 5:30AM depending on the time of year for Doi Inthanon National Park.
- We start at an altitude of 1700 meters. There is a 1 kilometer section of evergreen forest and pine that support a variety of bird species near the road on the forest edge such as the Emerald Cuckoo, Large Niltava and Silver Eared Mesia.
- We then travel to the summit and Angka Trail in the cloud forest where you may spot the localized Ashy-throated Warbler , colorful Green-tailed and Ms Gould’s Sunbird, Rufous-fronted Redstart and Silver-eared Laughingthrush and on the damp forest floor the Himalayan Shortwing and Dark-sided Thrush.
- We then have a delicious made to order Thai lunch then scan the quiet Rivers, Streams and Waterfalls for the very shy species like the White-capped Redstart , Plumbeous Water Redstart, Slaty-backed Forktail, White-browed Piculet and Blue Rock Thrush.
We provide transportation for the Doi Inthanon bird watching tour to, from and in the Park from Chiang Mai Thailand. with our experienced English speaking birding guide and driver. We suggest a minimum of two days one night in the park however 2 Days 2 Nights is recommended to cover the entire park.
A total of 382 species of birds are so far known from Doi Inthanon Thailand. At least 266 bird species are resident on the mountain. The status of a further 12 bird species is unclear, but breeding is suspected in many of these. The remainder (104 species) are non-breeding winter bird visitors or passage migrants.

1 Day Doi Inthanon Birding Tour Short Summary
We start at an altitude of 1700 meters. There is a 1 kilometer section of evergreen forest and pine that support a variety of bird species near the road on the forest edge. This zone has a higher bird species diversity than any other on the mountain between sunrise and 10 AM.: Among its bird species are:
